Description

I downloaded the newest version. Mistake. I go to download my radio, and it only gives TD-H3, TD-H8 and TD-H6. Does not state HAM or GMRS. I go to download both my H8 and H3 (both GMRS radios) and shows zero freqs. in memories. Completely blank. Any help would be appreciated!!

Per the IssueInstructions you indicated that you read, we need a debug log and a radio image to provide you any help at all. Please reproduce the download and then use Help->Report or update a bug to update this bug with those files.

I'm not a tech person, so forgive me for not knowing what to do. When I download for my H8-GMRS this is all that comes up. I will download my H3-GMRS next. I am using the latest Baofeng data cable. Before this update, I was able to download both of those radios and also my Baofeng UV-5R. My 5R downloads as usual. But the two Tidradios are no-go.

And this is all that came from my H3-GMRS. Sorry to be a bother.

The behavior you're describing (only showing H3 and not H3-GMRS) is correct and a recent change in CHIRP. It now knows which is which and doesn't require you to choose one or the other.

The H3 image indeed looks totally empty, and the H8 only has channel 15 populated. Are you saying that's not what's actually in the radio? I've looked over both images and they look otherwise correct, so it surely seems like they're just populated as blank. If they're not supposed to be that way, can you tell me what some of the other channels should be so I can look for that info?

Regarding this issue.  Both radios are bone stock programmed with all of the GMRS channels and repeater channels with NOAA also at the end of the list.  I still don't know why channel 15 showed up this one time, but it did.  Otherwise, both radios are populated by the factory presets.  I have not changed any of the channels whatsoever.  Thank you for your time.

Okay, well, your images really show no useful data in them, so without seeing something I can fix, I don't think chirp is at fault here. If the radios really show useful content then I'm not sure how to explain the discrepancy, sorry.

Well, that's all I can show you because your program cannot read brand new radios out of the box after this last update.  They showed up on the prior version.  Now?  Nada.  But not my problem.

I'm not blaming you for anything, I'm trying to help.

So to be clear, you can roll back to an older version and it pulls them fine, right? If so, please grab them and attach here with debug logs and I'll happily figure out the difference.

Old versions are here: https://archive.chirpmyradio.com/chirp_next/

If you need something older than what is there, let me know and I'll fetch or rebuild it for you.

I've gone to the oldest version that you have given me, and it still doesn't differentiate the, in this example, H3-GMRS/H-3 HAM.  The version I had installed before, showed the different versions to include the H8's.  Sorry for being a pain.  I do appreciate your work as it is far and away beyond my pay grade.  I did download the H3, and it shows channel 18.  Just so there's no confusion, I have several Baofeng UV-5Rs and CHIRP reads them just fine.  Anyway, thank you for your help.

  • Status changed from New to Blocked

The older versions that had the split-apart models just couldn't tell the difference between them automatically. The newer versions are able to do this, and that's why you don't have the option to choose them. However, chirp is clearly picking the correct models because your images are tagged appropriately as GMRS, but that also doesn't affect the ability to download an image regardless of the variant. There were many fixes (although none related to actually downloading the image) before the squashing of the variants (Ham, GMRS, etc) together, but again, if you can tell me what version you had, I can grab that for you to re-test with.

There have been a ton of fixes since those earlier versions of chirp to correct massive issues with the driver, and based on feedback lately, they're working well now. This is the only issue I've heard of lately with these drivers. It's just hard to proceed with anything because it looks to me like chirp is downloading the image properly, the image looks fine, and all the memories are blank (not corrupted, not damaged or unreadable, legitimately marked as empty). If you are able to use anything else (like TID's own software) to download them and you see something different I'd sure be interested in seeing that (and those data files).

I've been playing locally with my H3 and H8 and have been unable to reproduce anything like this, regardless of what mode the radios are in (Ham, GMRS, etc). If I upload your images into my radios, the radios show the memories as empty (except for that one) just like CHIRP does.

I'll mark this as blocked since I can't really proceed from here. If you get any more information (or captures from TID's software) please do upload them.

Thank you for your time.  I apologize for the frustration.  And there's no way for me to find the previous installation on my computer, I'm afraid.  Have a great weekend.
