Description

I opened a blank CHIRP Page and copied and pasted the frequencies from my Baofeng Radio to the new blank set. I then uploaded that to my AT-778UV. As soon as it was loaded I get (PIC 1) on the display of the radio. When I try to use the company software to get anything from the radio I get Communication Error: No return from radio. On Chirp I get (Pic 2). What did I do wrong?

Hi Brian, two things.
1) you could actually import the Baofeng image into your downloaded AT-778UV data and then upload the result back into the AT-778UV.
2) the fact that you can't get anything from the radio points to a cable / driver / connector issue. Please refer to these Wiki articles:
CableGuide
CableGuide FTDI OEM Cables
[RTSystemsCablesAndMavericks]
If there's no solution to be found in any of them, please read: How To Report Issues and provide a debug log. Thank you!
Windows notes: If you are using a generic cable with a Prolific chip, you will very likely need to downgrade your driver to version 3.2.0.0.
It can be found at http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php
MacOS notes: this OS is apparently very picky about USB to Serial cables. From what I heard, only (genuine) FTDI-based cables can be made work.
You must have the KK7DS Python runtime for Mac OSX installed.
Also see MacOS Tips!
Linux notes: Linux generally is quite good with USB to Serial converter drivers. The most likely cause for grief is a connector which doesn't provide good electrical contact.
Bluetooth notes: connections often suffer from timing issues, please try a cable instead.

Brian,
To clarify what Bernhard said... As far as I know you should always start with an image for the radio you're working with - not a blank page. If you don't have an image, then download from the radio first to get an image of it's current state. If you've done this before, then hopefully you have a saved image already. Using that image, make changes (like importing channels) and upload to the radio.

Brian, Brad is right: you always need to download from the radio first, then update what you downloaded, and finally upload the result back into the radio. Did you try this, did it work? Please let us know.
