Description

Hi, new to radios and programming. Have a new BTech UV-5X3 and Baofeng PC03 FTDI USB cable, Windows 10, current ftdichip.com driver installed. Similar to Bugs:#8669 and #8663, except different issue. I'm having a problem with initial cloning, except in my case I get to the "Clone Progress" popup but nothing happens - the progress bar never starts, no error message. I'm guessing I need what 8663 referred to as the "silver and black Baofeng cable and Prolific driver 3.2.00", but don't want to do that yet in case my issue is something simple that I'm overlooking. I also notice under the Radio tab the "download from radio" selection is clickable but the "upload to radio" selection is greyed out, although I'm guessing that's because it's not cloned yet?

Update: I forgot to mention that if I choose Com3 and proceed, I get this popup: "An error has occurred - could not open port COM3:[Error 5] Access is denied". If I try Com5, then the Clone Progress popup opens but is frozen. After my initial post above, I left it open for quite a while and eventually I get a different error popup - "An error has occurred - Radio did not respond". So it looks like I should be using COM3 and have a cable issue? Would simply installing the Prolific driver with the existing cable be a potential solution?

When I plug in my BTech FTDI cable, My Device Manager says:

Ports (COM & LPT)
Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (Com 3)
Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (Com 4)
USB Serial Port (COM5)

If I unplug the cable, USB Serial Port (COM5) disappears. There is no USB Serial Port for COM3??? I don't understand how ports work so any help appreciated.

Got rid of the Bluetooth links (for a bluetooth speaker I rarely use) and now connected via COM3, clone progress box briefly pops up the but then still get "Radio did not respond" error message.

Also, don't know if this is important or not but when I plug in the cable, the red and green lights briefly come on and then go dark. They do not flash or light up during the cloning process.

Also when I plugged in my cable, it did not automatically download the driver - had to go to the ftdichip.com website.

SOLVED. Stupidest reason of all - cable was not fully plugged into radio, took a really firm push to get it to click fully in. D'oh!!!!

The #1 cause when it isn't driver related. I happy to see you have it resolved.
