Description

Chirp does not support the Baofeng- UV-860. Is there an appropriate alias? I have attempted to investigate on my own and have not had any luck.

UV-5R like models with...

  • 2 power levels and 2 bands: Baofeng UV-5R
  • 3 power levels and 2 bands: Baofeng BF-F8HP
  • 2 power levels and 3 bands: Radioddity UV-5RX3

From the listings I have looked at for the UV-860, the pictures would indicate that the radio has 2 TX power levels. Since it also has only 2 bands, I would expect that the 1st option is the one to choose.

I keep receiving a error message indicating the radio did not respond.

Most likely one or more of the following...

  • incompatible device driver installed for chip in programming cable
  • incomplete connection between programming cable and radio
  • radio requires a different "magic" string than most Baofeng radios to initiate cloning (least likely)

The first issue, when using Windows, can be investigated by using Device Manger.

The second issue can be simulated by leaving the programming cable unplugged from the radio and then attempting the download. The error message will be the same.

The third issue can be investigated by using the factory programming software.

See the Miklor.com "Cables & Drivers":https://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php page for additional information.

Jason, does it work now? If so, which radio did you select in Chirp?
If it still doesn't work, then please provide a debug log as described in the Wiki: "How To Report Issues". Thanks!

Yes, it works now. Turns out I had a bad device driver in my programming cable. The Baofeng UV-860 can be considered a UV-5R variant. Works like a charm now.
