Description

Hi, I have a Baofeng UV-5X that I would like to connect to Chirp, using an FTDI driver, on my Mac 10.15.5 Catalina. I have Python and a python runtime installed, the FTDI driver is installed, and the correct version of Chirp is installed. I also went into my Security and Privacy settings to grant the Chirp app multiple permissions. However, I am still not able to download the radio. I get stuck at "Download from Radio -> OK", where I believe I'm entering the correct port, vendor, and model info, but I get back an error message each time. I can't find much online about connecting the UV-5X model to Chirp, only the UV-5R model. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You should install the CHIRP MacOS Unified Application which eliminates the need to install Python and the KK7DS Python Runtime. Without specifying other details like the Vendor, Model and Port selected and the exact error message, it is hard to help further.

Also review the "MacOS Tip":https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MacOS_Tips page for Troubleshooting tips.

Hi, thanks for your response. I did install the CHIRP MacOS Unified Application, I guess I didn't need to go through the extra Python installation steps but I did anyway. For port, I chose /dev/cu.usbserial-A10KJKLD. Vendor: Baofeng, Model: UV-5X. I then click "OK", and get a window that pops up saying "Clone Pro: Cloning" with a loading bar. Before there is any loading, an error message pops up saying: "An error has occurred: Radio did not respond". I included a screenshot of the error message below, thanks for your help.

CHIRP is not getting any data back from the radio. This is most likely a cable/driver issue. Be sure that the 2-pin plug is fully inserted into the socket. On some cables, the plastic shell of the plug contacts the walls of the socket which causes an interference that prevents the plug from being fully inserted. See the "Common Error Messages":https://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_ErrorMess.php#error1 page of the miklor.com website.

This model uses a different "magic" string to initiate the cloning process. Work to support this model is being performed against ticket #9187. Please comment or provide any additional information to that ticket. This ticket is being closed.
