Description

I recently purchased a Baofeng UV-82C to use with my backcountry ski patrol and county emergency services in Northern Colorado. I successfully programmed all the channels from previous radio programs (both Baofeng and Wouxon), but it won't indicate the following things on the status display:

  • High Power "H" - It shows only "L" unless I also press the # ket. This is particularly important because I've had issues reaching dispatch in places that I've previously had NO issues with my Baofeng BF-F9V2+ or Wouxon KG-UV3X. I've observed this with both of the longer (15") Nagoya antennae that I own.
  • Transceiver Dual Reception - This APPEARS to be working, but I don't see the 'S' indicated in the status display.

With both of these issues, if I go into the radio's menu and set the appropriate settings (menu items 2 and 7 respectively) they appear to be set properly! Do you have any suggestions or
thoughts? I'm hoping to prove to myself and the other patrollers that this is a wise, reliable, and lower cost option for us compared to the Wouxon I mentioned.
