Description

Great new radio, but I had to purchase the RTsystems software and cable to program it.

Your best bet is to contact the vendor and tell them that you (their paying customer) want CHIRP support for their radio. Without a radio and a copy of the software, we cannot reverse engineer it. Another vendor (Import Communications) has been very active in providing samples of their radios for CHIRP integration. Letting PowerWerx know that you want this is the best avenue for getting it supported.

Thanks!

It's probably just another clone in the vein of Anytone AT-5888UV, but only way to know for sure as Dan mentioned, is to have a radio, software, and cable to do reverse engineering of programming protocol.

The Anytone setting in nightly doesn't work with it. I'd be happy to test anything you'd like. I'm also a developer ;) Just point me in the right direction.

I snapped this while uploading programming data. I'll copy down the anytone.py and see if I can't get something going.

The hardware in this radio is the same as the Anytone 5888UV and Intek HR-2040. Like the Intek HT-2040, it returns a different Model ID (DB-750X) when you interrogate it. Patching to support this radio should be similar to the method that was used to modify the Anytone code to work with the Intek.

I am now on the developer mailinglist to get the Polmar DB-50M supported (see http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/1343). The DB-50M is as close to the DB-750X as you can get, they even share the same remote head (which is better looking than the Anytone one, LOL!). It also supports 7 character channel names.

If we get either of the radio's working, the other is probably a no-brainer. ;)

If you try a download of this radio by selecting the Anytone driver and then attach the debug.log here, we should be able to enable this radio.

Here is the debug.log file after trying to download from the radio using the Palomar DB-50M profile from the CHIRP daily-20140109 build.

Actually the previous debug.log was the wrong file. Here is the correct one after reading from the DB-750X using the Palomar DB-50M profile from the CHIRP daily-20140109 build.

Okay, can you try the attached file? Enable developer options (Help menu) and then use File->Load Module to pull it in. Please make sure that it can clone to/from the radio and also properly open a saved .img file as the correct model.

Thanks!

After loading the anytone.py module I attempted to read from the radio. I got the cloning dialog in both the software and on the screen of the radio, but afterwards none of the information that is currently in the radio show up in the software. The debug file is attached.

Ah, you need to load that into a current daily build. 0.3.1 is too old. Please see the download page.

But, the debug log showed that the clone worked, so I think success is just around the corner :)

Yes, this seems to be working now. I was able to read, write, and load an IMG file into the radio.

Sweet, thanks. I'll push this in for tomorrow's daily build.

Actually looks like there were some errors programming. Here is my debug. I attempted to upload some local repeat channels imported from the repeaterbook feature. There were about 20 channels total. Channel 14 and channels above 15 do not show up in the radio.

I don't see any errors in that log, it looks like a fresh start. Please make sure to grab the debug log after you experience the problem and before you restart chirp. Also, please include your .img file when you reporting this sort of thing.

  1. When loading the attached image file channels 8-15 are not visible in the radio. However, if I do a clean read of the radio after programming, all of the channels show up in Chirp.

  2. Channels 50-56 are pre-programmed as NOAA WX by the manufacturer. However, when reading the radio with CHIRP these channels do not show as programmed.

  3. I attempted to overwrite the programming in channel 50 with 146.52 MHz simplex, as shown in the IMG file. After writing to the radio, channel 50 indeed shows up as 146.52 MHz. Channels 51-56 are still the manufacturer programmed NOAA weather channels. However, channel 25 now appears to be programmed (even though no data for 25 was entered in the IMG). The frequency for the channel appears as FF.FFFF on the radio's display.

Okay, those look unrelated to the Powerwerx clone, and are just issues with the anytone driver itself. I created issue #1365 for these issues (since they're different from just basic support). I copied your comments into there, but would really appreciate it if you could attach the debug log and image to that bug. Further discussion should continue over there.

Thanks very much for your help and patience!
