What other major software can you point to that allows this? TBH, I see it as a major win that in chirp-next, we properly inherit the locale from the system on all three major platforms, instead of just Linux. Having to make non-english-speaking users select their language before they can read the UI was always an extremely gross wart in the original version, to me. Akin to some of the chinese radio software shipping in chinese mode by default, and us having to fumble through unreadable menus until we see "english" and assume that will fix it.

Oh my, when I read your reply at first I thought you were pulling my leg..
We obviously have 180° views on this. The ability of the user to change the UI language of every single program he uses and not restricted to OS level is a degree of freedom that should be almost mandatory.

Perhaps you didn't in the line of your daily life and work had to combat with funny translations, missing menu translations, wrong interpretation of words etc. Me and many other users have (btw I won't refer to my knowledge in IT, since I come here as a simple user)

Anyway since I have the utmost respect for the work you do on CHIRP which is far more important than just having to delete some files (sorry to add another program in order to user CHIRP the way I like it is counterproductive) I will leave this matter here. I totally think it's wrong but hey you're the boss :)

...it was an honest question.

I'm wondering if disabling the translation for just the CHIRP elements would be sufficient to avoid translating the radio terms, while keeping stock translations for things like File, Edit, OK, Cancel, etc. Is that more confusing to be in two languages or one? I have less control over the stock items, without substantially changing very early initialization of the application window, which I really don't want to do if possible.

Also, would it not be better to just un-translate the "radio terms" for languages where the translator may have gone too far?

For me that would not be enough, I just don't want anything computer related to be translated to Greek. I find your opinion on #1 really weird, and I absolutely agree with post #2.

I really don't understand -- why do you have the windows locale set to greek if you don't want anything to display in greek? I know it doesn't change anything, I'm just trying to understand.
