Description

This is my first time attempting to program a Baofeng BF-F8HP radio using Chirp Legacy and Chirp Next using the supplied FTDI cable. I keep running into error: Error communicating with radio. Radio did not respond.

I am currently running OSX Ventura: 13.2.1 on a MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip. So far I have done the following...

  • Installed and tested Chirp legacy. (Produces same error)

  • Upgraded to Chirp Next (CHIRP next-20230322 on Python 3.8.2 wxPython 4.2.0 osx-cocoa (phoenix) wxWidgets 3.2.0)

  • Installed FTDI Chip drivers

  • FTDIUSBSerialDextInstaller_1_5_0

  • FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_3

  • Ran USB port finder (Screenshot A)

  • Identified com port as: /dev/cu.usbserial-AB0LASYI (Screenshot B).

  • Repeated attempts with additional com ports suggested in (Screenshot B).

All attempts return "Error communicating with radio. Radio did not respond". (Screenshot C).

Screens/debug log attached...

Thanks!

Gary

Most likely this is an issue with the connection between the programming cable and radio. For example, if you leave the programming cable disconnected from the radio and attempt a download, the error will be the same. Double-double check that the 2-pin plug is fully inserted into the socket. It is not unusual for some people to have to apply pressure on the plug during the cloning process.
