Description

The issue does not affect the radio itself, it simply does not work in the software. Memories -> Channel Properties -> Extra -> BCL checked -> OK. Reopen the same Channel Properties -> Extra, and BCL again presents as unchecked. If and where BCL per channel were previously set in CHIRP-legacy as checked, CHIRP-next recognizes the setting, but if BCL is then unchecked in CHIRP-next, it cannot be successfully checked again. The same setting is available through Browser -> memory, where it works, can be changed, and the change is properly saved in the image, but CHIRP-next does not recognize any change at the moment of making the change: no asterisk appears at image window tab, no File -> Save option available, only Save as.

I don't know what can be wrong with my installation. I don't know what are external dependencies of CHIRP (some VC++ runtimes etc?) but all internals are in place, it's a normal installation from a version-described CHIRP-next *.exe installer, there are no custom settings in the installer (except installation path), everything left default. As said elsewhere in New Model #10478, the bug disappears after deletion of localization files from CHIRP\wx\locale. If this folder is emptied, CHIRP works without it, with the whole GUI switched to English, and in such case the bug disappears and the Extra tab with its checkboxes behaves properly both in UV-5R and UV-K5. Restoring of any another language (and renaming it to "pl" to force CHIRP to switch the localization engine on, because my localization is Polish) causes the bug to reappear. I don't know about other drivers because I don't own other radios. I don't know if the same bug exists under Linux, I use windows 11.

Okay, I can repro this if I set my locale to pl (on Linux because it's easiest to do so). It's weird because none of the strings related to BCL or the extra settings are marked for translation.

Anyway, I'll figure it out.

yes the tab itself remains untranslated.

And please understand, that not only the BCL setting/checkbox is affected, but every checkbox in the Extra tab. The bao UV-5R driver Extra tab contains only one checkbox: for BCL, but as I mentioned in New Model #10478, QS UV-K5 driver Extra tab contains three checkboxes, and all of them are affected by the same bug, which only disappears if and when the localization files from CHIRP\wx\locale are deleted. Deletion from CHIRP\chirp\locale is not enough.

chirp-next-20230611 works and behaves properly with both aforementioned drivers, checks, unchecks and saves the state in the image. Thank you very much.
