Description
Good evening , i have been using chirp for a number of years now and its a great system and helps me a lot, i am the communications officer for a response group so program radios regularly and the system is great for it i have recently downloaded the Chirp-Next system after looking at the info and was wondering why you can no longer seem to be able to copy and paste the channels when programming instead having to re type them all out again is their a reason for this or could it ben changed so you can use the copy and paste function again?
Kind regards and look forward to a response , also just a message to show my appreciation for all the hard work and time your team put in to this software and system thank you..

- Tracker changed from CHIRP-next model report to Bug
- Status changed from New to Feedback
- % Done set to 0
- Model affected changed from Programming to Missing
Um, copy and paste are supported in -next and are kinda the most important/critical way you get data from one source to another.
Why do you think it doesn't work?
Per the How_To_Report_Issues please include information about which model(s) you're attempting and include a debug log of whatever you're trying in case something is failing that isn't visible.

Copy and paste commands are now located in main menu: Edit -> Cut, Copy, Paste etc. and are active when a channel is selected in the channels table. Upper left corner of the GUI. At least in Windows.

Adding usage note, I have been using the last 4-5 version of CHIRP-next, the shortcut keys (Ctrl-c, Ctrl-v, Ctrl-x,...) all working on all versions up to 20230611 on both Windows 10, 11 and Linux Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS

Closing this because no response and it's clearly supported. If there's something preventing it from working, the original requester can comment here and we can re-open.

I was unable to copy and paste from one file to another for the same radio program. Ie clicking a bulk of pre programmed channels , right clicking to copy and the paste on a new window / file like I have been doing for a couple years now. Program almost daily with over 80 responders needing radios re programmed or new programmed up.
Thanks all for the help it's appreciated

You'll need to include the image you're working from and your debug log per How_To_Report_Issues . Please provide specific instructions like "load image X, select memory 2, hold shift, select memory 5, edit->copy, file->new, edit->paste" and describe what you see at each step. Include a debug log captured after you do that procedure.
Those actions are the core of the chirp workflow and are heavily used daily by pretty much all users. You saying they don't work is the first I'm hearing of any such trouble.

Here's me demonstrating copy and paste, just in case it's not clear what we're talking about:
I dunno why imgur thinks that's adult content, but you may have to click through that you're of age :)

maybe it would be good to restore copy & paste options into channel context menu? like it was in chirp-legacy?

That would be a good possibility and would save going in to menu's could just highlight, right click copy and paste

Dave,
in the source You need to highlight everything You want to copy, a block of cells,
in the destination You need to highlight only one cell, first of what You want to start the pasted block
CHIRP will then show a message "Memories xx, xx, xx... will be overwritten"

I can look into that, but making that video was the first time I've ever used the edit menu myself. Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V are ubiquitous keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste. Being located in the edit menu is similarly universal with every application in the last 40 years or so...
Dave does that mean you are able to copy and paste now that you know where they are in the edit menu? Please confirm.

thanks for restoring cut-copy-paste into channel context menu. confirmed working in today's 20230622 build. generally works as expected, meaning: in source select either a single channel or block of multiple channels, in destination only need to select first channel to overwrite a block.
