Hello.
I'm trying to use CHIRP to modify few settings on the radio (disable TX), but the "Settings" tab remains empty.
Radio: Baofeng UV-5R
Firmware: BFB298
Chirp version: CHIRP next-20230718

This is basically a duplicate to issue #10505. The image has bad data in the Aux memory area. Do you have an 'image' file that was saved immediately after you first successful download?

Thank you very much for such a fast reply.
It take me a few time to analyse as my level in English is quite poor.
I guess one solution would be to edit the .img file in hex and send it back to the radio.
But it is realy difficult to locate the datas.
I tried to replace "WELCOME" for "BONJOUR", and use CHIRP to upload to the radio. But the modifications doesn't seems to be take in account.
There is also the "Browser" tab in CHIRP but values are impossible modify.

When you get a brand new radio, once you have made the first successful download from your radio it is a good practice to save the newly created tab, unedited, to a CHIRP Radio Images (*.ing) file. Having this file would be useful to understand what state your radio was in before making any changes. If you didn't make this file yourself, recent builds of CHIRP-next now make these backups automatically in the background. To access these backups do the following...
- Type %appdata% into the Type here to search box located near the left end of the Task Bar (next to the Start button) and press [Enter].
- In the File Explorer window that appears double click the CHIRP folder.
- Double click the backups folder.
- If the currently selected backups folder contains backup 'images' from your radio, please attach the one with the oldest file date to this issue.

As far as I undestand my Baofeng is BFB298 firmware, that means some parameters are in ROM and so can't be modified.

OK. The 'backup' file was newer, but it wasn't 'factory' so you must have had your radio prior to CHIRP-next getting the backup feature. So here is what you have to do with these newer misbehaving radios...
- Download the attached image and save it in a convenient location
- Start CHIRP
- Load the image file that was saved in step 1
- Click Settings -> Advanced Settings
- Locate the Range Override Parameter and click in cell that currently display [Default ]
- Type Ctrl + A to highlight everything in this cell
- While everything is highlighted type the [Delete] key
- Type UseAtOwnRisk into the cell (case sensitive - do not use copy-and-paste)
- Upload to your UV-5R
- After a successful upload, restart CHIRP
This should get you going.
