Description

Hello,

I'm having a number of problems with a particular Baofeng GT-3WP which I bought used on ebay. It is only displaying 6 characters of channel names which have 7, and when setting the MR B channel, the setting actually programmed to the radio is incorrect. There are a number of other subtle issues, please let me know if you need further description.

I'm including a debug.log which I generated with the --log command line switch, because CHIRP was not generating one in ~/.chirp, and there was no option for one which I could see in the help menu.

I'm also including a backup of the radio I took before doing anything to it, after it arrived in the mail.

It should be noted that a different GT-3WP which I just received works fine and does not have the same issues - so far it appears to only be the 1 particular unit.

Based on what I was told on the mailing list, I'm guessing that this radio was improperly programmed before I got it??

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Load the Baofeng_GT-3WP_20240207_first_unit_TEST.img file and upload it to the particular radio in question.

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN

The radio to work similarly to how other units I have work, after being programmed.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED

  1. 7-character channel names only displayed with 6 characters
  2. MR B channel set incorrectly
  3. strange behavior such as always starting on original channels rather than what was selected when radio powered off

I should also note that Baofeng_GT-3WP_20240207_first_unit_TEST.img was created by starting with Baofeng_GT-3WP_NOTSTOCK_20240111_on_arrival_from_ebay.img and then pasting in the channel scheme and manually setting the various settings.

There are additional quirks beyond those mentioned above. Just general strange behavior, which now that I am a little more knowledgeable, do sound a lot like this radio was programmed using a .img from a different unit sometime before I purchased it secondhand.

From what I understand, there is a repo somewhere of .imgs to go with certain models and firmware versions? But, I don't know how to go about finding a .img for my particular unit if indeed one exists. I don't know where the repo is or how to figure out which img would be correct.
