Description
Motorola's CPS software is extremely confusing. I would love to see CHIRP support for these older radios. Can it be done? I'll gladly loan out a radio.

I've tried reading data from my HT1250. The codeplug was encrypted. Motorola seems to think that codeplugs are a protected work to which they hold the copyright. Circumventing this encryption (if possible) without permission from Motorola would invite some unwanted attention from Motorola lawyers.
Some details on the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions: http://chillingeffects.org/anticircumvention/faq.cgi
I don't think my radio configuration qualifies as a protected work of Motorola, but I've heard they do. Moreover, I'm not sure if it's possible to crack their encryption.
Related: Since discovering this encryption, I have chosen to purchase a few Kenwood commercial rigs over their Motorola counterparts.

I would also suggest steering clear of anything Moto around chirp, as it is very, very likely to invite wrath of Moto along with army of IP lawyers.
Repeater Builder folks have a FAQ around RSS subject - worth a read, and I consider that community knowledgeable on this subject:

Ok, thanks for explaining that. Tom, I agree, I would never buy a motorola because of the "Motorola TAX" but someone gave me these HT1250's. Thanks again! Matt
