closedGUI does not display when running on Ubuntu

Description
I cannot get chirp gui to come up in ubuntu 11.10 or 12.04
The python lib is there as well as serial and gtk2
note GTK is not available I can only find GTK2

and then tell me what you're seeing. The messages you post are not errors, they're warnings, and don't mean anything by themselves.
Do you see (what you think is) a blank screen? Does the display look garbled?

What do you see in the Unity menu bar at the top of the screen?

I get a blank screen from either OS I did load gtk2-engines-pixbuf.
I no longer get the errors that I saw above
from terminal this is what I see.

in the GUI it is just a blank screen. nothing at all shows. right click or left click nothing.

Mouse over the menu bar at the top. Unity hides the menu bar until you mouse over it for all applications. CHIRP is just waiting for you to open a file, download from the radio, or do something else.
