Bug #3045
closedCloning Stops Almost Immediately
0%
Description
I just received 2 new UV-5REs. One of them programmed just fine with an older Daily Build. When I tried to program the 2nd one, I got the message "An error has occurred Radio refused to send block 0x1ec0".
I downloaded the latest daily build started to upload the file and the cloning stopped almost immediately and the following error message was displayed: ". . . version of the image (BFS3111 BFB297) does not match that of the radio (HN5RV011FB298)".
Is there a fix for this or did I get a dud radio & I need to send it back? I need to know ASAP so that I can return it. I appreciate your prompt attention.
Thank you,
David

There is no fix for this. This behavior is intentional.
CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) from Baofeng radios must not be traded amongst other Baofeng radios unless the firmware version of the tab being uploaded exactly matches the firmware version of the radio it is being uploaded to.
BFS311 firmware came out in the latter part of 2013. It was replaced by BFS313 firmware in early 2014. So the radio with BFS firmware is a little over 2 years old.
HN5R firmware came out around the middle of 2015.
The memory layouts between the two radios are incompatible. Uploading the CHIRP Radio Image from either into the other would cause the recipient to be permanently squelched (no receive audio unless the [MONI] button is pressed).
Also with the HN5R firmware ending in "8" would indicate to me that the radio may be a VHF/220 model instead of a VHF/UHF model. Images shouldn't be traded between VHF/UHF radios and VHF/220 radios either.
So what you must do to get the channels from one radio to the other radio is to either...
- import the saved *.img file from the source radio into a tab created from the destination radio (preferred)
or
- open a tab from each radio and then copy-and-paste the channels from the source tab to the destination tab
