Description

Radio does not have support. This is becoming a fairly popular radio. The stock SW is awful, please spin Chirp to program this cool little radio.

Bought one of these as a Christmas present to myself.
Programming with its own software saves as a ".icf" file which I believe is what Icom uses. Tried to convince Chirp that it was an Icom but don't know which model would be closest so no joy.
Hope that's a helpful pointer towards adding support for it.

Same here. Don't understand why the 8600 isn't being added. It's becoming fairly popular now. Please add!

  • Status changed from New to Rejected
  • Priority changed from High to Normal
  • Chirp Version changed from 0.4.0 to daily

It's not being added because no developers have one of these radios and/or a desire to add it.

CHIRP is a volunteer project. Adding radio drivers takes a lot of work on someone's weekend or evening time, even after they have the actual radio itself.

This is a duplicate issue, so I'm closing in favor of the original.

Offer still stands, I will order a brand new one and have it delivered to the developer! Original reply from Dan sure sounded pretty negative though.

Joshua, radio loans are complicated to coordinate, don't always work out like you think, and represent a risk for both parties involved. Not everyone is interested.

Further, as I said, it's not just access to the radio, it's nights and weekends away from family. There are SO MANY models being churned out by the chinese companies these days that developers have to decide when and where to spend their precious time. It's hard to justify spending nights and weekends working on a radio driver for a radio you're going to mail back to the original owner. You might have better luck offering to buy a developer a radio, but very (very) few people are willing to do that. The developer is going to spend way more than $150 worth of their time writing the driver.

William, I'm not trying to be negative at all, I really appreciate the interest and especially the willingness to help get it done. I hope you can understand that it gets frustrating when people open a request, marked urgent, ask it to be added (as if it's nothing or that we get paid to do this) and then say "I don't know why it's not being added". Sometimes I think people assume that adding a radio to chirp is as easy as adding it to a word document :)

If you're willing to buy a radio for someone, I'll be glad to socialize that around to see if anyone is interested in that very generous offer.

I will GIVE the radio to the developer, so strings attached. Just get me a shipping address.
