Description

I have errors when introducing name fields like "am mode not suported" when read from the radio an am memory (air band). Also, the typical "Frecuency requires 12.50khz step". And finally (at the moment), can´t introduce symbols or spaces in the name field, only leters and numbers (without spaces). Thanks

  • Status changed from New to Feedback
  • Target version set to chirp-legacy
  • Model affected changed from icom icw32e to Icom IC-W32E
  • Platform changed from Windows to All

Does the radio support comments as long as yours, does it support spaces?
Could you please provide a debug log as described in the Wiki: "How To Report Issues"? Thanks!

¡Gracias!

Hello, from your log, I believe you speak Spanish. It's perfectly ok to ask in Spanish, we have Google Translate :-)
Unfortunately the pictures of the logs you sent are incomplete and not very helpful. Please please provide a debug log in text format as described in the Wiki: "How To Report Issues"; collect the log while you are producing the errors you are having. Thanks!

Update: the IC-W2E does not support airbands, and therefore it doesn't have AM.
For the 12.5 kHz step issue, please provide a log, and also tell us the frequency you want to program.
For the letters and spaces, you need to find out whether your radio supports these: please give us examples.

Intentaré mandar un log mejor, aunque no he omitido ninguna información relevante. Gracias.

Errors about "AM" happen when downloading the memories from my computer, therefore the icom ic-w32e supports am and air band, because I myself have memorized them by the keyboard, and it is when modifying the name of those memories in Chirp when the error appears. In fact, Chirp does not show the type of modulation when modifying the memories, so I don't quite understand the cause. For the problem of the step of 12.5, the problem exists in any frequency multiple of 12.5, for example 1456125 :-) - For the problem of spaces and symbols, the equipment allows to enter this type of characters using its keys, the error only occurs in Chirp, therefore it does support them. I will try to send a better log, although I have not omitted any relevant information. Thank you.

Sorry, but Chirp can't make a radio do what it wasn't built for. The specifications listed in the Icom IC-W32E manual are: Modes: FM (F3); frequency coverage transmit 144-146 MHz, receive 138-174 MHz (the air band is 118-136 MHz!).
Also, For the names, we need a list of all supported characters. However, the manual does not describe any way to enter channel names - so how do you do this?
The 12.5 kHz step issue seems to be a bug in CHIRP, indeed.

En mi manual figura lo siguiente (Página 24):
- Memory names
Memory channels can be programmed with names of up to 8
characters in length.
Names cannot be programmed into the call channel.
-Frequency↔name
To toggle between frequency indication and memory name
indication:
➥Push [M•N] to toggle between frequency and name indi
cations.
•“NO NAME” appears when a memory channel has not been
programmed with a name.
The following characters can be used in names:
➥0 to 9, A to Z (capitals), (space), 〈, 〉, M, +, –, “ ” /, “ ”
and =.

-Programming memory names
1 Assign the main band to the desired display with [MAIN].
2 Select the memory channel to be programmed:
➥Push [MR] to select memory mode.
➥Rotate [DIAL] or push 2 digit keys to select the memory
channel (only programmed memories can be selected).
3 Push [M•N] to select memory name indication.
4 Push [(M•N)MN•W] for 2 sec. to enter memory name writ
ing mode.
•The first character of the name
flashes.
5 Enter the desired name via the
keypad or [DIAL].
.Push the appropriate keys to input
the desired characters using the
same convention as for telephones.
•To erase a character, overwrite with
a “space” using the [(0)Symbol] key.
•To move the cursor forwards or back
wards, use the [(M•N)≈] or [(#)Ω] key.
6 Push [(VFO)CLR] to input the set
name.
•Flashing stops.
•Eight characters is the maximum for
a name.

En la página 16 : Tuning steps can be selected for each band. This transceiver
has 8 tuning steps as follows:
•5 kHz •10 kHz •12.5 kHz •15 kHz •20 kHz •25 kHz •30 kHz •50 kHz

Thank you, excellent information! (Turns out, I looked through the wrong manual.)
With the data you gave us, a developer should be able to fix things. Stay tuned...
