Description

I have in the past using BF soft ware programmed the units, however I cannot seem to find the correct software for my radios so tried Chirp. I get Error 2 when I try to connect. The thing comes up with COM3, and then select radio so UV 5R and then hit the button and I get error 2, what exactly is error 2. I have tried both daily and the proper version for windows 10 I expect it is me but.....

An "[Error 2]" message is an indication that the selected COM port does not exist. In other words, either the wrong COM port is selected or the COM port is not functioning properly.

Another thing to not is that CHIRP remembers and selects the last COM port used no matter if it is available or not. If something happens to cause the COM port to change from what it was previously (for example you forgot to plug your programming cable in), then receiving an "[Error 2]" message is expected.

What you should do is access the Device Manager application to determine which COM port is currently assigned to your programming cable and choose it.

For example in my computer my FTDI chip based programming cable has been assigned COM7. The correct choice in CHIRP will be COM7. The COM1 port assignment is not a programming cable so choosing it or any other COM port besides COM7 will cause an error.
