Description

So, we got 2 Baofeng UV-5r's for xmas straight out of the box I upgraded them with nagoya na-771 antenna's we got the cable to work properly and down loaded chirp, spent some time (more than 2 hrs) on the phone with Jim Unroe on Saturday night, Jim had me pull up the "debug" log and after a few minutes of Jim reading through it as my luck would have it Jim goes "huh i've never seen that before!" long story short I can not for the life of me get CHIRP to work with these 2 radios if any one has any input im open to any suggestion!......if you would like to see the debug log it may take some one walking me through it to get to it but I can send it to you....Jim if you read this you might be able to post it here, I wouldn't know how to.

I did verify while on the phone with Kevin that he does have the recommended Prolific v3.2.0.0 driver installed. Attached is Kevin's debug log. CHIRP gets the Init and Radio Version back from the radio. So is appears that communications between the radio and computer are OK.

does this mean there is something wrong with the radio or will a new daily build fix the problem?

I don't know if this helps but I have a UV-5x - firmware BFB297. The radio does work using the UV_5R_VIP software that came with the radio from BAOFENG. But it doesn't work with the Chirp 0.4.0 (which I loaded and tried before loading the UV_5R_VIP) This leads me to think that the cable and the radio is ok. Any Thoughts?

Brian,

It is a safe bet that you do not have BFB297 firmware. All UV-5R variants after BFB297 report BFB297 with the [3] + Power-on message. This is no long a useful message for obtaining the "real" firmware version. For these radios you have to look at the Firmware Message 1 setting on the Settings -> Other settings menu in CHIRP.

The latest firmware versions (N5R-20 and newer) are not supported by the v0.4.0 or v0.4.1 CHIRP stable builds (look at the Supported Radios list on the CHIRP home page). You must upgrade to an October 2014 or later CHIRP daily build.
