Description

I am a newbie and trying to set my brand new baofeng uv-5ra with ubuntu 15.04.

chirp software installation is ok (latest version - chirp-daily-20170124 )

I just plugged in the USB cable and issued the dmesg command to the console, so my UV-5R cable works and has a driver running on /dev/ttyUSB0

The second thing I did was to go under the Radio menu and select “Download from Radio“

then I selected port /dev/ttyUSB0, vendor baofeng and model uv-5r.
I follewed Baofeng UV-5R Instructions:

  1. Turn radio off.
  2. Connect cable to mic/spkr connector.
  3. Make sure connector is firmly connected.
  4. Turn radio on (volume may need to be set at 100%).
  5. Ensure that the radio is tuned to channel with no activity.
  6. Click OK to download image from device

pop up message : cloning ....

Radio did not respond

any suggestion ? ty

Hi Andrea,

It is most likely a connection problem between the 2-pin plug and the radio socket (very common) or a defective programming cable (not as common but possible).

Try pressing on the plug while attempting the cloning process.

in my last attempt it worked ! lol ! ty.

now I have a new problem.

I heve been trying to upload a configuration .dat o img.file ....but it is impossible due to the configuration

My version sw is bfb297 (kept pushed bottom 3 while starting)

The upload was stopped because the firmware version of the image (N5R2407BFB297 ) does not match that of the radio (HN5RV011

any help ?

Resolved by submitter.

About the new problem: if radios (even of the same brand and type) contain different firmware versions, then an image cannot be shared between them. This is by design, because image layouts might then differ as well and could cause radio malfunctions.
