Description

  1. What is the behavior you are seeing?

After downloading from a brand new Baofeng GT-3WP, clicking on the Settings pane displays a pop up saying "An error has occurred" with "list index out of range".

  1. What is the behavior you were expecting?

The Settings pane should show settings available for the radio.

  1. Can you reproduce the problem all the time?

Yes

  1. What are the steps required to reproduce the problem?
  • Open CHIRP (latest build dated 2023-02-24)
  • Plug in radio
  • Select Radio => Download from Radio from the menu bar
  • Choose "USB Serial", "Baofeng", "GT-3WP"
  • Click "OK"
  • Wait for download to complete
  • Click "Settings" pane
  • See error
  1. Is this specific to a certain radio model (driver) or something that you can reproduce with another radio?

I've only seen it with this radio model.

Can you attach the .img file from your radio? Likely your radio has a setting with a value outside the range the driver allows, so we need to guard that.

Also, congrats on being one of the few people in the 15-year history of chirp that actually read the How_To_Get_Help page, thanks :)

Attaching the .img file as requested.

Your radio has invalid values for the TXP (transmit power) levels of both VFOs.

Please switch your radio to VFO (frequency) mode and cycle through the TXP levels of both VFOs using menu 2 (TXP) or by tapping the [#] shortcut key to see if that will update them with valid values. Then download from your radio to see if the settings tabs appear.

If that doesn't fix it, I have attached a copy of your "image" file with the TXP values corrected.

Later today I will look into the issue further.

Wouldn't it be better to just make the settings loader not choke on these values? I assume they're erroneous and not actually valid for this radio, but either way, I'm sure that Matt won't be the only one with this problem.

Oh, maybe that's what you meant by "later today I will look into the issue further. Sorry. caffeine absorption was (still is) low. Ignore me :)

A patch to provide TXP limit checking for both VFOs has been submitted.

Thank you both for your help. Cycling through the TXP levels did not fix the issue, but the corrected image file did. Much appreciated!

I recently submitted a patch that will read the original file without choking on the out-of-bounds settings. It will be in the next CHIRP-next build (probably tomorrow). Thank you for reporting this.
