Description

Hy!

I'm trying to Download/Upload from my radio ( Baofeng UV-9R Plus ) but i always get following error message.
"Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want."
I'm using a "BAOFENG CH340" Cable.

Following things have been done/tryed:

  • old and new CH340 drivers ( + PC restart without Internet connection )
  • CHIRP-Legacy
  • CHIRP-Next
  • Selected different Models in download options+
  • Diferent Volume Settings 1 - 100%
  • Modified cable so that the cable-pins are in correct possition on the radioboard
  • Checked the logfile: > ### > [2023-03-05 21:45:15,086] chirp.wxui.clone - DEBUG: Selected > [2023-03-05 21:45:15,097] chirp.wxui.clone - DEBUG: Prompt pre_download disabled for radio > ### Full Logfile is attached

Hope some one can help me to get this issue fixed!
Thanks!

Best regards
Peter

Hi Peter,

The most likely cause of trouble is that you do not have a working connection between the programming cable and radio. This is very likely if you have a certain kind of programming cable.

The style as depicted in "MayNeedModifiedToFitProperly.jpg" has the shell extend out past the surface where the pins stick out of and contacts the boss of the radio's case. This contact can force the pins to be not in line with the proper pads on the radio. To get this type of programming cable to work I have had to modify them with a file in a manner that let the pins line up with the correct pads.

The style as depicted in "ShouldWorkAs-Is.jpg" has a shell that does not extend past the surface where the pins stick out of. This allows the programming cable to easily line up correctly with the pads of the radio.

You can easily confirm that this is the issue by trying the OEM programming software. If it fails, too, it would confirm that this is not a CHIRP issue because no programming software can function without a working connection between the computer and radio.

Marked #10431 as a dupe. I wonder if we have a new variant of this radio or something? Are these recently purchased or older models?

Mine was a recent purchase

I ordered a new programming cable from another supplier and despite visually looking exactly the same (inc both having Baofeng printed on them) as the one that did not work this one worked perfectly. I retested the old cable which still did not work so that went in the bin.

Maybe some poor quality control or lots of bad copies on the market for the programming cables - either way my issue now resolved

Thank you for the followup feedback.
