Hi Carl,

Could you attach the affected .img file here? The screenshot doesn't show any frequencies being edited so the out of range frequencies might be in another settings tab.

Hi Tony, I received the error message while adjusting the 440 band, I also received the same error message while trying to update the power on message as shown in the first screen shot I sent. Even though the changes stayed in the setting menu they did not transfer to the radio in the upload. Let me know if you have any other questions

CHIRP-next works different than legacy CHIRP. When you make a change it refreshes all settings. A setting other than the one your are editing contains an invalid value. My guess it is one of the values in the VFOs. Just switch to the Work Mode tab and take a look at the values shown in each VFO. My guess is that there is 1 or more that are not withing the following ranges.

136-174 MHz
220-225 MHz
400-520 MHz

Correct it/them and upload to your radio and you should be all set.

The other thing that I didn't realize until now is that it would appear that someone has adjusted the band limits from what they are from the factory. Set them back to factory (based on my chart above) and the problem will go away.

I changed the range back to stock config but still getting the error message and upload failed to register new power on message. Is the data correct on the work page?

Attach 2 CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) files. The image that you are trying to upload and a freshly downloaded, unedited image from your radio.

Not sure what you are asking for as an unedited image from the radio

  1. Download from your radio to create a new tab in CHIRP.
  2. Without making any changes (unedited), save the new tab (File -> Save As...)to a native CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file.
  3. Attach that newly saved "image" file (not a picture) to this issue.
  4. Also attach the "image" (BTECH_UV5X3_20230422.img from the screen capture above) that you mentioned that you uploaded to your radio and "failed to register new power on message".

I don't know why the picture was attached, but thank you for attaching the CHIRP *.img file.

After loading the CHIRP file into the latest CHIRP-next, I can add and remove channels, edit settings, etc without any prompts. My guess is that you didn't download from your radio to create an updated tab after changing the band limits in your radio. The band limits used by CHIRP to determine if the entered frequencies are in-band only are only updated when downloading from the radio or loading a previously saved CHIRP image file.

I also uploaded your CHIRP image to my UV-5X3 and all was well. The "power-on message" doesn't appear because you haven't enabled it to be displayed. MENU 38 [PONMSG] was set to FULL and must be set to MSG in order for the Power-On Message to be displayed when the radio is powered on or rebooted. See MENU 38 in the User Manual and/or my guide, Reference for UV-5X3 Menus, which available from here: https://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_MenuDef.php

You can change this using the radio's menu system or from within CHIRP using the following.

Settings -> Basic Settings -> Power-On Message: Message

If you change it from the radio, be sure to download the change into CHIRP (or change is as well in CHIRP) or the next time you upload from CHIRP back to your radio, MENU 38 will be set back to FULL.
