I meant to make this entry under "new model", not "bug". Don't know where to go to change that.
Thanks, and sorry.

Are you saying that these models both work fine if you choose UV-5R as the model in chirp? Or are you guessing that they're similar because they look similar? If you have confirmed the former then we can add entries on the front page for them.

I think the BF-F8+ seems to pretty much work. There are a few things that are weird, but that just may be how it is, not specific to this model. I only recently got the GT-5R, and haven't had much time to expirement with that. Plus, someone set it up for me, and I don't want to break anything with a wrong config. Yes, I made a backup of the original config in a safe place, and just added new stuff below their original config.

Thanks.

Okay, let's see if Jim knows, he's kinda the expert on these things. If you could attach .img files of each to this that would probably help.

You mean a Chirp .img file, and not a photo/pic image, correct? I might make a stripped down version of each if that is OK by you. Let me know.

Thanks.

Yes, chirp .img files.

Here you go.
The GT-5R one, I pulled over using Chirp with UV-5R as radio type, I believe.
The BF-F8HP, someone else pulled the config for me, then sent me the .cfg which I uploaded and use as a UV-5R type also.

Let me know if you need anything else.

OK. You are talking about three different radios: BF-F8HP , BF-F8+ and GT-5R . As shown in the CHIRP Supported_Radios list, all 3 models are already supported and have been for a very long time.

BF-F8HP: an 8 watt (tri-power) radio based on the UV-5R and sold by Baofeng Tech. It should be programmed using:

Vendor: Baofeng
Model: BF-F8HP

BF-F8+: a 5 watt (dual-power) radio based on the UV-5R and sold by various dealers. When it was introduced the most obvious difference was the inverted LCD display. Later on it began shipping with the conventional LCD display making the case style the only difference. It should be programmed using:

Vendor: Baofeng
Model: UV-5R

GT-5R : a 5 watt (dual-power) radio based on the UV-5R and sold by Radioddity. It is a "ham" specific model which only transmits on frequencies withing the USA ham bands (144-148 MHz & 420-450 MHz). Frequencies entered outside of those ranges should be receive only (TX disabled). It should be programmed using:

Vendor: Baofeng
Model: GT-5R

You should not trade CHIRP Radio Image (*.img) files among these radios. To program common channels and share them between these radios you should download from each radio creating a separate tab in CHIRP for each radio. Then you can create your channels in one of the tabs. Then you can copy-and-past as needed between tabs. When pasting into the GT-5R tab, if the channel being pasted contains a non-ham frequency a popup appear to let you know that CHIRP will be changing the Duplex field to "off" (TX disabled) to match the way that the radio's firmware supports that frequency (receive only/transmit disabled).

I mis-typed when I wrote BF-F8HP. I meant BF-F8+.

I saw the GT-5R after I started this bug, so that can also be removed.

I still do not see the BF-F8+, which is a UV-5R with upgraded guts/internals/firmware, but not the 8W of the HP yet, so it was a kind of interim model.

I thought they used the UV-5R model as their basis, but it is good to know they have their own model.

Oh, OK. I did not see that second Baofeng section below. Then we're all done here. Thanks.

Oh, not so fast.

I made some changes in my configs, and went to "Download from radio", and the Baofeng BF-F8+ is NOT included as one of the models in the menu there. I tried the UV-5R, but some weird static. Maybe just me, maybe not. Either way, the model is missing.

When you get a chance, this model is missing. Not sure if fully supported, or just missing in the list. Does anyone else use a GT-5R who can confirm A) if the model is missing on import/export function and B) if everything is working correctly by just using the UV-5R settings. Also, the BF-F8+ does not have the different colors that the GT-5R has, or it isn't working right.
