Description
Hello,
I wanted to check if the new UV-5RH - which is actually a larger radio with software similar to the UV-17 - will be coming.
Regardless, all of your work is very much appreciatd.
Cheers,
Scott

Just adding this to note that using the UV-17 Pro modules provided in #10648 mostly works with my UV-5RH; programmed MR channels work fine, but settings tab has a "list index out of range" error.

Also adding UV-17pro gives memory 0 channel which my UV5RH does not have. Uploading a saved file works but then all the channel numbers are wrong.

Hello. A recent post about the UV-5G Plus referred to this ticket for participation. I am interested in CHIRP support for the UV-5G Plus. I have tried some of the UV-5XX choices for both Baofeng and Radioddity. Thank you!

I've just got my UV-5RH. When trying to read from it by choosing UV-17 Pro as suggested here, I get an error message saying "Not the amount of data we expect". Any hint how to solve this problem (assuming it can be solved)? Thanks in advance.

- I read the instructions above set to Yes

Although the UV-17Pro selection will read the radio, you actually should use the 5RM model selection for the (UV-)5RH.
You have to provide a working connection between the radio and computer. For example, if you leave the programming cable unplugged from the radio and attempt a download, the error will be the same.
There are 2 most likely causes.
One is there isn't a compatible device driver installed (affects mostly Windows and macOS users when the programming cable has a Prolific type USB-to-Serial chip). For Windows you have to download, install and manually select the older Prolific v3.2.0.0 device driver or switch to a programming that uses a chip from a different chip vendor. For macOS, you need the different chip.
The other is the 2-pin plug is not fully engaged in the socket of the radio (often do to variations in the quality of the programming cable and variations in the position of the socket within the case of the radio). Sometime you have to press on the plug during the cloning process.

Jim Unroe (sorry, I do not know how to quote a message, I'm new here).
Your instructions were VERY helpful! After installing the Prolific v3.2.0.0 device driver and choosing 5RM, I could read from the radio, paste the memories from the configuration file of my old uv-5r in a new file, and upload it to the uv-5rh. It worked perfectly, thank you so much!
Only one more detail, if you do not mind. On my old uv-5r, when hitting the vFo/mr orange button the display changed from the frequency to the name of the channel. On the new uv-5rh the same button switches from frequency mode to channel mode (says the nice lady speaking from the radio) but the display show what looks like a different frequency. For example, for channel 1 have
Frequency Name
446.00625 PMR-1
On frequency mode, the display shows 446.00625 (correct), but for channel mode it shows 402.22500 instead of PMR-1. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you again for your help!

Just like on the UV-5R, the radio has a Memory Display Format (MDF) which allows you to select how you want a memory to be displayed when the display is in MR (channel) mode: CH, NAME or FREQ. Apparently your UV-5R already has the menus set to NAME.
The settings in CHIRP to change the MDF for each radio are shown in the attached screen captures. Each radio also has its own internal menus for configuring these settings. Consult the Users' Manual for each radio.
