Bug #124

Yaesu VX-8R memory bank assignment being limited to 100
Added by Eric Macauley over 12 years ago.
Updated over 12 years ago.
Model affected:
Yaesu VX-8R
I read the instructions above:
Description
While trying to assign memories to a given bank on my Yaesu VX-8R, I noticed that chirp would only allow me to assign up to 100 memories to that bank. I am not aware of any bank assignment limitation on the radio itself, I believe this is a bug.
The behavior when I try to assign the 101st memory to a bank is that chirp appears to update the bank information for that memory, but the checkbox in the GUI does not get checked, and no new "Banks changed" gets printed to debug.log

Hi Eric,
I agree, I don't see anywhere in the manual that it spells this out in as much detail. However, the way the memory is laid out for the banks, there are only 100 slots per bank to store a memory number. The first slot for the second bank start immediately after the 100th slot for the first bank, so I'm quite sure this is correct. It's just a function of how the radio stores the information about membership in a bank.
You might try filling a bank with 100 memories, uploading to the radio and then manually adding one more to see what it does. My guess would be that it will kick out one of the other memories, or give you an error.
I'm going to close this as not a bug, but if you somehow succeed in adding 101 memories to a bank, feel free to re-open and attach the image :)
Thanks!
Hi Dan,
Just to followup, I confirmed you are correct, there is a 100 memories per bank limit. I tried adding a 101st memory to a bank that already had 100 memories on my radio, and it issues a "BANK FULL" message. Wish the Yaesu manual explicitly stated that limit :)
Thanks,
Eric
