Description

It has been discovered in the Yahoo baofeng_uv5r group that special characters can be entered into the Name cells of CHIRP by using the right-click|Edit window. Not having a valid character check for this field is supposedly a bug.

Exploiting this bug, it was determined that the following list of characters can be upload to and displayed by the UV-5R.

! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + - = [ ] : " ; ' < > ? , . /

Would you add a valid character check in CHIRP for the right-click|Edit menu?
Would you include the above listed characters as being valid for this check?

The following was sent to me in an email message.

I loaded a sample frequency in my spreadsheet. (chan 30)
Entered a $ in Name via the edit field.
When I did, my PL tone reset and I lost my Offset.

When I tried to create a new channel in chan 31 and 37 (chosen at random)
It would not accept an offset or PL tone for either.

So far I haven't experienced this. But it does appear that it is possible that entering a special characters in the Name field can have an adverse affect on other fields. Would you look into this as well?
