  • Status changed from New to Blocked
  • Chirp Version set to 0.2.2

This is blocked until a dev can get their hands on a radio. See Rules For Loaning A Radio if you have one you're willing to loan.

I have just picked up a used FT-1500M and would be willing to loan it before I put it into use on an Echolink node.

If either of the above loaner radios do not work out, please feel free to contact me Chris. My club has a number of these radios and programming cables for which we would love to see support.

I too am willing to loan a Yaesu FT1500M radio to get this working with Chirp.

Or, if it's easier to send me instructions on how to capture the data going back and forth from the radio and use that to build a new driver for Chirp, I'm willing to invest some time doing that as well.

Seriously, Equipment Loan Offered set to NO????

I have over 25 of these radios. I will send all TWENTY-FREAKING-FIVE in at my own expense to get this radio finally supported and what is possibly the oldest open issue closed. This offer does not expire until I do.

I have 4 of these radios for our county Emergency Operations Center. We're going to use them as a Packet Winlink gateway to our AREDN network. They are vital to our EOCs mission, but such a pain to program.
I am willing to give one of these to the Chirp team for development of software.

I bought one of these radios yesterday, and was surprised to see there was no CHIRP support.
After a quick skim through the yaesu_clone code for some hints, I was able to get a clone dump off the radio via a serial terminal connection.
Serial speed is 9600, 8,N,1.

  • Radio sends ID "AH4N0" + 0x24 0x09 0x01 0x02 0x24
  • Reply with ACK (0x06)
  • Radio sends ?? (0x09 0x01 0x01 0x01, then 12x 0xFF)
  • Reply with ACK (0x06)
  • Radio sends clone data (~3955 bytes)

The data format looks pretty straightforward, could one of the devs with Yaesu clone knowledge take a look and see if it's similar to any other Yaesus of similar vintage?
I've included a session log and binary capture of a clone download. Channels 1-8 and 10 are currently programmed.

I'm working on writing a driver for the FT-1500M, it reads/writes to the 130 regular memory slots reasonably well.
Currently it only supports the memory frequency, name, tone mode, tone, duplex, offset, mode, power and tuning step.

I'll get the code cleaned up and look into submitting a patch when its ready.
