Description

This is the error I get, using the daily-build of chirpw on linux mint mate 17.3

I know the cable works, as I was able to clone my uv-82 with no problems. I just got this uv-82HP and it is giving me this error on the command line, with the typical window saying unable to connect to radio. No amount of fiddling with it will get it to do any different.

Just a note, this is the chirp version number... CHIRP daily-20160419

I do not show a newer version.

I have a plain jane UV-82 with an FTDI cable, and this works for me. With my radio om freq. mode and off, I click "download from radio". When the window pops up, I connect my cable to my radio, and I turn on the radio, immediately setting it to full volume. Then I hit the button on the popup (can't remember it rn) to start the link. Works for me, sometimes I have to do it twice but no worries.

It works with the UV-82 but not the UV-82HP. I am not sure how to check the firmware on this version, but I just got it from BaofengTech through amazon.

I am having the same issue with my UV-82HP and FTDI cable on a win7 computer. I have tried updating the drives like some of the post on the web suggest, but it has not fixed the problem.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

I’m a fellow UV-82HP owner as well… I’m new to amateur radio and bought this model to start out with and “venture slowly” in to the Amateur Radio world. I also had the same issue with my new genuine FTDI cable from Amazon not being able to connect from pc to radio. I would get the message “Unable to Read” or something like that. Until…. I ran across a reviewer on the Amazon site for the particular cable I bought and he said he had to physically press in on the connection end that is plugged into the side ports on the radio while it was reading. It worked! Now, I’m not sure if it will work for you because maybe you’re having a different problem, but thought I would offer it up anyway. The reviewer said something about the “fit” of the cable end that plugs into the radio having too much plastic around the jacks when the plastic was molded at the factory. My radio will not read to or from my PC unless I do this every time. It does not need to be squeezed hard, but a “Firm” light touch does the trick for me. You will have to hold it until radio completes its reading/writing process to PC. You may have to experiment a little. One reviewer said he trimmed some plastic. I just don’t remember which plastic he meant. Whether it was on the actual cable around the jacks or on the radio body itself near the female ports.

I tried attaching a pic of how I hold the cable when reading/writing to/from my PC. Hopefully it attached correctly...

Good Luck

An Error Has Occurred Radio Did Not Respond keeps appearing when trying to download from my Baeofeng UV5RE Plus (same problem when trying to connect my new UV-82 HP) to my MAC computer running Mac OS version 10.11.4. I am using a Valley Enterprises cable with FTDI Chip and Chirp daily 20160517, with FTDI Drivers 2.2.18.

Previously this cable worked on the above Mac computer, and Chirp and the above cable still work on my Windows computer without any errors with both radios. Any suggestions on the error on the Mac computer?

I believe with El Capitan you have to use the native Apple driver and not the one from FTDI.

How do I revert back to the native drivers?

  • Status changed from Feedback to Closed
  • Model affected changed from UV-82HP to Baofeng UV-82HP

A solution has been suggested.
As for the Mac issues, please open a new ticket for it if it's still an issue.
