Description

Please excuse me in advance if this bug is present elsewhere, I have searched for it for the best part of 20 minutes but have been unable to find it.

While the GT-3TP works with the setting for the BF-F8HP it does not appear on the device list, requiring a google search to find out the correct setting)
My suggestion is to clone the BF-F8HP setting into a GT-3TP setting so that the appropriate device can be selected in the drop-down list, or extending the label for the BF-F8HP to include the GT-3TP name too.

(doesn't sound like it requires much work to implement)

If there are reasons as to why this is a bad idea (ie you want people to use google, you're not planning on supporting the model or whatevs) i'm curious to know the reasoning behind it.

thanks again for an excellent program and let me know if I can assist in testing with this model. (my coding skills are zero, but I'm a tech support engineer, test I can)

I chose all platforms but for some reason this got logged under "MACos". It applies to all versions / OSs

I seems that that Supported Radio Models list on the CHIRP home/wiki page is too often overlooked. It shows the correct model to choose.

  • BF-F8HP (3 power levels) Also includes the BF-F9V2+ Also includes the GT-3TP Also includes the UV-5R PLUS Also includes the UV-5RHP Also includes the UV-5RTP Also includes the UV-5R7W

To do what you request would also require the inclusion of all the other 5 listed radios. Then carrying the same logic over to the UV-5R, there would be another 40 variants to clutter up the choices.

If it is a UV-5R type radio with 2 power levels, choose UV-5R.
If it is a UV-5R type radio with 3 power levels, choose BF-F8HP.

Hi Jim:

I would argue that if it needs a manual then it is not intuitive.
I understand the clutter argument, it would be useful to have sub-section types (UV-type, GT-Type) and/or a search function.

One would think that not finding the model of the walkie talkie under "models" would mean that it is not supported by chirp.
That is the uneducated assumption for the regular user. Unless you know the inner workings of the walkies and chips and so on it is an easy mistake to make.
(Hey, I'm fairly technical, I work as a senior support engineer for a SAN vendor and I made that mistake at first)

there's two approaches to this:
There's a rock in the driveway which everyone stumbles on.
you can:

1.- berate them for not going to the map where the rock is clearly marked
2.- remove the rock.

the BF-F8HP sounds nothing like 5 out of the 6 models it refers to. I personally would prefer the bloated model list, or an intermediate choice with sub-menus with model families.

However, with limited dev time I understand if that dev time is allocated to more important stuff than this rant of mine, about a free program which I'm just grateful exists. (Thanks again!!!)
Please do keep it in mind, however, if you ever have dev cycles to spare.
