Description

Hello I got a Baofeng uv82HP, When I download from radio Chirp displays "Incorrect 'Model' selected.", reading amazon reviews people say you can program is as ether a UV-82 or UV-82HP. The baofeng tech UV-82 VIP software does program it. I have tried 2 different known good cables. Let me know any more info you need/want to help fix this issue.

Found a fix from old tickets, and put the instructions/fix here: https://github.com/LoyalNine1487/Chirp_Beofeng_update

Zak,

What you have is a fake UV-82HP. It is responding to the "magic" for a UV-82 style radio, but it is identifying itself to CHIRP as being a UV-5R type radio (a rather old UV-5R with 'N5R2407BFB297 ' firmware), hence the "incorrect model selected" error.

This isn't a fix. It is a workaround for the person with this particular type radio. The change would 'break' CHIRP support for other legitimate radio models.

Yeah, but when you try to use the UV5R preset the radio doesn't respond.
With "Fix" doesn't restarting chirp clear out the old loaded dev modules? If so then yes it's kinda a fix.

And yes this is a radio I got from Baofeng tech and does work with Btech's vip software.

No. It is just a workaround for you. If other people with behaving UV-5R radio try to load their saved images with your "fixed" CHIRP, they can be incorrectly detected as an image from a UV-82 and it would be impossible to upload them to their radio.

So for you to use the "workaround" for your radio is great. Just remember that is there is an update to the uv5r.py driver in the future, you will have to apply the workaround to it (and so on).
