CHIRP

Bug #4223 asserts that there is no UI available to add Application Security exception for CHIRP, and that CLI commands are necessary. Not only is the this incorrect and the given CLI procedure needlessly over-complicated, the instructions in the wiki also currently include a command that will disable Application Security altogether, which is dangerous and should be removed.

The procedure for adding an Application Security exception via the UI is as follows:

Attempt to open the extracted app normally, you'll get an error message dialog:

“chirp-daily-201xxxxx.app” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.
Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers.

Click OK

Open System Preferences, navigate to Security & Privacy, General tab. At the bottom you'll see a message that says:

“chirp-daily-201xxxxx.app” was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer.

Click Open Anyways, a new dialog will open:

“chirp-daily-201xxxxx.app” is from an unidentified developer. Are you sure you want to open it?
Opening “chirp-daily-201xxxxx.app” will always allow it to run on this Mac.

Click Open, the application is now whitelisted.
