Description

I've used CHIRP for a while now with great success. Just recently encountered a problem that I couldn't find a solution to.
I started programming the Baofeng UV-82. Took a long time to type in 100+ channels, but it was worth it.
I've used 'copy & paste' to transfer these channels to the UV-82HP, GT-3TP, GT-3WP, and F8-HP. I just tried doing the same thing with a UV-9R (which some research told me to mark as a 'UV-82WP' on CHIRP). Download from radio was successful, as was upload. Unfortunately, the number of characters available on the 'Name' value dropped to 6 from 7. It shows that on the CHIRP screen as well as the radio. The radio display DOES have 7 characters, I can see them when you turn the radio on. Any tips or hints?

Hi Trevor,

The Baofeng so-called "waterproof" radios only support 6 characters. There is nothing CHIRP can to do overcome this hardware limit.
