Description

Hello!

I am experiencing the following error report from CHIRP, with regard to the Luiton LT-316:

"An error has occurred. Radio identification failed."

This behavior occurs when I attempt to download (or upload) to the radio.

The behavior I'm expecting is that CHIRP will recognize the radio. (I suspect CHIRP does not recognize the firmware on the radio?)

This occurs every time I attempt to to download or upload to the radio. This is my first experience with CHIRP.

I have reproduced this problem on two computers, both of which run a Windows 10 OS.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Best,

Joe

I'm having the same problem with Chirp and been having this problem for the last 2 months. Chirp started out as a great way to program my ham radios, but for the last 2 months I have started looking for a new software to program my radios. I hope someone will find the problems that chirp has and get it fixed soon. I have 20 radios to program for a customer.

  • Status changed from New to Feedback
  • Target version set to chirp-daily
  • Chirp Version changed from 0.4.0 to daily
  • Model affected changed from (All models) to Various

Have you all been able to resolve this on your own since you submitted this?

This is a question best asked on the "mailing list":http://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_users.
You might get (much) quicker feedback there.

Unfortunately, the log of the original submitter is incomplete, it did not capture the actual attempt to connect with the radio.
But the symptoms are those of a cable / driver / connector issue. Please refer to these Wiki articles:
CableGuide
CableGuide FTDI OEM Cables
[RTSystemsCablesAndMavericks]

Windows: If you are using a generic cable with a Prolific chip, you will very likely need to downgrade your driver to version 3.2.0.0.
It can be found at http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php
MacOS: this OS is apparently very picky about USB to Serial cables. From what I heard, only (genuine) FTDI-based cables can be made work.
You must have the KK7DS Python runtime for Mac OSX installed.

If there's no solution to be found in any of them, please read: How To Report Issues and provide a fresh debug log. Thank you!

Turns out there is an issue with Retevis RT22 variants (the Luiton LT-316 is one of them).
This ticket duplicates #6747. Please follow and post there. Thanks!
