Hi Steve,
This is most likely due to not having a working connection between the computer and radio.
Does the Windows Device Manager show that COM6 is assigned to your programming cable?
While you are in Device Manager, does the Driver tab for the programming cable show the driver loaded is for a Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port? If it does, have you downgraded to the Prolific V3.2.0.0 device driver? A link to the driver and instructions for installing it are "here":http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php.
