Description
This is just an FYI...I am running chirp on Linux / crouton / Ubuntu. I have encountered the error others have reported about accessing the serial (USB) port with my radio attached. I added my username to the "dialout" group. That made no difference.
I checked the group membership for the /dev/ttyUSB0 port with:
ls -l /dev/ttyUSB*
It shows my port is part of the "serial" group, not "dialout"
So now when I did:
sudo addgroup myusername serial (substitute the actual user name)
then logged off and on, chirp ran and accessed the radio via USB without error messages.
Takeaway: you can verify what group your USB port is and whether you have access to read/write to it, and then add your username to that group.
