According to the "CHIRP Supported Radio Models":https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home list, the Baofeng UV-9R Plus is supported. Use Vendor: Baofeng and Model: UV-9R.

If that doesn't work, it is most likely a programming cable issue. The most often cause is due to an incompatible device driver is installed in Windows for the USB-to-Serial chip in the programming cable. A poor connection between the programming cable and the radio is another common cause.

I recently received a UV-S9PLUS from Ali express, I had ruled out driver / programming cable issues given I am a mac / linux user and program multiple radios with the same cable.

I blindly tried all models of Baofeng after the models suggested on this issue and others did not work. The Baofeng UV-5x was the only one I could get to read and write the radio reliably.

The UV-5X selection is just an alias of the UV-5R selection. If UV-5X works, then the UV-5R selection must also work.

Hello

I have a new Baofeng (UV-S9 Plus) with a Mirkit FTDI Chip programing cable with the latest Chirp software. I show I am connected to Comm-4 I am using Baofeng (BF-F8HP) as the radio. I keep getting "An error has occurred" "Radio did not respond". I am open to suggestions I think I have the correct programing cable.

The most likely cause is that you don't have working connection between the computer and radio. For example, if you leave the plug end of the programming cable unconnected from the socket of the radio, the same error message will appear.

The most common causes of this are...

1. A compatible device driver is not installed. This is rare for the FTDI USB-to-Serial chip, but it does happen. If you are using Windows, what does Device Manager show?
2. The connection between the 2-plug of the programming cable and the socket of the radio is not fully completed. Sometimes there can be interference between the plastic shell of the plug and the side of the radio's case that prevents the pins from being fully inserted. Also, because of variations in the manufacturing of the plugs and sockets, some people have had to put pressure on the plug during the cloning process.

Hi Jim

I been trying to figure out the issue for a few hours and reading forums for guidance. I can see the COMM-4 port established when I plug in the cable but no joy. I went to the FTDI website (https://ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp-drivers/) and downloaded their driver for Windows 7 and up. When I tried to do the download I pushed the two prong programing cable into the radio with lots of pressure. The radio finally started to read and download the data. I think the facts you stated above was the ticket.

I used:
COMM-4
Radioddity
UV-5RX3 for the Radio
