This radio is available in FRS, MURS, or PMR models. It is a good, inexpensive radio to give to an unlicensed user to "take this and go."
There is no reason to change the pre-configured frequencies, but it is necessary to use the programming cable to set CTCSS and DCS tones and features like BCLO, which may be desirable.
The RT-47 appears to be similar, but IP-67.
