I forgot to mention I have the six meter / 2 meter version of this radio. Thanks again.

This radio should be supported already; the list of Supported Radios recommends to use the Wouxun KG-UV6 driver, indeed.
Could you please provide a debug log as described in the Wiki: "How To Report Issues"? Thanks!

Ernest, please give us some details about what exactly doesn't work with your radio and Chirp. This radio should be supported.

Looking to potentially re-open this bug ticket. I recently purchased a KG-UV7D that came with the menu locked. I was looking to use chirp to open the menu and apply the CSV from my KG-UV6X.
I tried the cable from my KG-UV6X and got a generic "could not connect" error, so I purchased the designated UV7D FTDI cable from BlueMax49ers.
On both Windows 10 and Mac OS 12.5.1 I get the same error, that chirp cannot communicate with the radio:
@Failed to communicate with radio: I can't talk to this model (000: 00 00 15 00 00 2a 00 44 .....*.D
008: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00@
I've uploaded the debug log, but because this is a new radio, I do not have an existing image. Running Chirp daily 20220823. I select the virtual port provided and also KG-UV6D as specified on the supported radio list. This radio is the 2m/70cm version.
Complicating factor: this radio was already programmed by BetterSafeRadio.com before receipt to open the TX for my public safety use in search and rescue. I worry that this may be affecting its ability to communicate with Chirp.
