Description

I wish there was a free form comment line off to the right where we could enter something like City/state etc. I would like to print a list of the programming and see the comments/location/whatever.

Better yet, if possible, I wish a column called "City" or "City/State" would auto populate even though it would not upload to the radio. This then could be exported and printed.

CHIRP reads the memory from the radio. It is this memory "image" that you manipulate, store to a CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file and eventually upload back to the radio. So if the radio doesn't support "comments" or a place to store the "City/State", then CHIRP won't be able to do support it.

Thanks Jim. After much trial and error I did figure out a way to keep a "master list" of frequency where I can populate City. I exported the radio file from Chirp and kept it as a CSV file. I then populated the comment field with the city. I can manipulate this file, adding, deleting, sorting at will. I then import this file back into Chirp and update the radio. Chirp apparently ignores the comment column.

If anyone else would like to try this: 1) Don't format any fields, leave as is. 2) Keep the file as a CSV file (don't save as Excel). 3) Leave all headers and columns as is. You can change the number order in the location column however.

I can then print this "master file" which shows frequency, call sign, city.

Though I might pass this along with the idea it might be helpful to others.
