Description

Hello,

I have an older mac running 10.12.6 sierra. I tried downloading and launching the newest version after not using my mac for a while (last version 20200430) and the new one will not open and. it bounces in the launchpad for a second after authorizing it in settings then disappears. The older version opens and seems to operate as expected. any insight would be helpful.

I'm not very proficient with Mac operating system but is there any kind of debug log or crash log that you can find and attach to the ticket? I'm not sure if any of us have mac systems with that version OS to reproduce.

Thanks,
Tony

Thank you for the reply, below is the code in the system log

pr 17 09:19:30 Normans-iMac com.apple.xpc.launchd1: Service exited with abnormal code: 1

abnormal code 1. That's more information than we had before!

Is there anything like these logs you can find on your system? https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/9809

In that case we could tell that CHIRP didn't load because python wasn't installed. In another issue, https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/9800, we found that CHIRP needed a code signing command to be run.

Installing python again from link below corrected the issue.

Unfortunately re-downloading python did not fix the issue, also tried the code signing and that did not work. when I try to open it through the package contents terminal file it seems to have an exit command right away

Normans-iMac:~ Norm$ /Users/Norm/Desktop/CHIRP.app/Contents/CHIRP ; exit;
Python 2.7.10 (default, Feb 7 2017, 00:08:15)

Hey Norman,

It looks like you are running CHIRP from the desktop. I'm not well versed enough in macOS to know if this is a problem or not but can you open a finder window, then open your Applications and drag and drop the CHIRP app into the Applications window? After you do that then the code snippet to sign the app will work, because it's specifically looking in the Applications directory.

Hope that helps,
Tony

Unfortunately, that did not help either. U'm just wondering if my system is too old now to run it appropriately. I appreciate all your help. I have other systems I can run chirp on so we can go ahead and close this ticket.

I tired one last hail mary and got it to open. I used the script in the terminal from the below ticket and it opened. however instead of saying CHIRP in the menu, it says python however, it appears to operate correctly

https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/4503

this is the out put I get

Great find Norman!

Just to be sure that I understand what's going on, can you confirm the script you ran on the other ticket was

/opt/kk7ds/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python /Applications/Chirp.app/Contents/Resources/chirp/chirpw

If that's the case then it sounds to me that CHIRP doesn't want to launch using the official python.org installer.

That ticket also mentions renaming the CHIRP app to "chirp.app" and moving it to Applications. I wonder if that would work too.

Good Morning,

yes, that was the script I ran. I did try renaming it but that didn't work. though it still launches with the script with Chirp in the applications folder so that's how I've been running it.

Is this still an issue?
Thanks.

Hi, thanks for reaching out, to be honest I’m not sure, I messed with it for awhile, then with other things not working anymore on my Mac I just got a new Mac and chirp is running perfect on that
