The program worked good the first few times I used but now no matter what I do i get this message "could not open port COM3: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified.". I have 2 radios a Baofeng UV-5RA and a Wouxun KG-UV8D. could you please help me with what I am doing wrong. I have tried all the ports and tried to change the COM#
I'm also experiencing the same issue on a Windows 10 PC "...could not open com3 port...." Will try on a MacBook to see if I can get past this issue.
Make sure you are selecting the correct com port. CHRIP remembers the com port that was used and if it was changed since the last time CHIRP was used, you will get this error. I gut this error just yesterday when I switched programming cables and the new one was assigned a different com port. CHIRP use the previous port and this was the error that I got.
Also, if you have a programming cable with a Prolific type chip and use with with the Windows operating system, the automatically installed device driver is incompatible. You must download, install and select the Prolific v3.2.0.0 driver from 2007.

Recently picked up a Baofeng UV-S9 Tri-band and after much frustration I found this issue #3355 - figured I would try the downgrade of the Prolific driver - IT WORKED.

I bought a Baofeng BF-F8HP and the programing cable from Baofeng Tech. I programed the radio with CHIRP, but after a new version of Windows 10 was automatically installed, it will no longer work. The error is: could not open port COM3: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified. I tried all ports. Any suggestions about how I can fix this?

Don't "try" the ports. Open the Device Manager app, then plug in the programming cable to see exactly which COM port was assigned to the programming cable. You never have to guess.

- First, download the most recent drivers for your cable as noted on the site of baofengtech cable documentation - along with the instructions.
- Extract the files.
- Open Device Manager
- Check the driver status of your devices (in this case, ports and the usb-serial converter). Good chance that the upgrade messed up the drivers.
- Update the drivers with your newly downloaded drivers.
