Struggling to download a recently purchased radio and getting the 'Error reading from radio: not the amount of data we want' error.

Have seen the previous issues suggesting this is often the cable not fitting correctly and the cable I have seems to match the shouldworkasis image.

After several failed attempts to download i have trimmed the flange at the other end to the screw to make it sit a bit more flush with the radio body and as far as i can tell the pins are lining up with the contact on the radio

At the same time as i get the CHIRP error the radio switches off and back on indicating there is some kind of connection. When switching the radio on with the programming cable connected the radio speaker is active which i thought was odd as this does not happen with the 888s or UV-5Rs - is this a sign that the cable is faulty or just an artifact of the different jack on the programming cable not suppressing the radio speaker?

Anything else i can try other than buying another cable and hoping for the best?
