Hello - I did search the issues and found someone asking about sorting by column already, but the proposed resolution to that seemed to revolve around the feature which sorts a group of memories by one column's data and re-orders them in the radio memory. (Feature #10430)
Another person seemed to be asking for display sort but the discussion veered again toward re-ordering the data in the radio memory. (Feature #10606)
What I'm looking for is an extremely handy feature of CHIRP legacy, where one could click a column to change the display sort order from channel number to frequency (or some other column) so it would be easy to look for duplicates, or just to find a channel that is on a specific frequency, etc. This doesn't seem to be discussed in any issues that I could find, nor in the FAQ. Currently, to search for duplicates it seems one must export to CSV and view/manipulate/search the data in other software...

In order to break away from Python2 (which is no longer supported) and switch to Python3, CHIRP development had to switch windows managers among other things. These changes necessitated doing some things differently, leaving some things out to be added back later, and in some cases, removing some things that can't be supported any longer.
Sorting was one of those things that didn't get included right away. Sorting was eventually returned but due to the switch in window managers, how it was implemented and how it is used is different. How it works is covered in the Advanced Editing in CHIRP video available on YouTube.

Excellent video, thanks for that link. I was aware of the mechanism for re-arranging the order of blocks of channels, but the video pointed out a few things that will be very handy such as Ctrl-up/down to move individual channels quickly.
So to be clear, is the simple sorting of the view by column a feature that is still coming (yet to be implemented), or something that had to be permanently dropped due to the changed window manager? If it has had to be dropped permanently, that's unfortunate as it will be sorely missed.
Although, I just discovered that one of the reasons I used to make use of it so often (to find a specific frequency or callsign by temporarily sorting the view on that column) is no longer necessary, as there is now a Find function which CHIRP legacy did not have. I was really pleased to discover this, as I was not aware there was now a Find function. because for some reason it isn't mapped to Ctrl-F. When I first started using CHIRP next, I hit Ctrl-F to try finding something, and when that didn't work I assumed there was no Find feature. It's awesome that there is now finally a Find feature! Any plans to map Ctrl-F to bring up the Find dialog?

Yeah, sorting for display only is going to be hard and isn't on the roadmap right now. We can leave this open to make sure it at least stays on the radar.
Find is mapped to Ctrl-F on Windows and Cmd-F on Mac (both the convention for the platform). What platform do you see it not mapped to Ctrl-F on?
I am using it in Windows (version: CHIRP next-20230722) and Ctrl-F does nothing. It also shows in the Edit menu as having no shortcut, although Find Next does have the shortcut Alt+Ctrl+F listed and that does work (although it's a bit unusual, typically Find Next is many Windows applications is F3). I have attached a screenshot of the Edit menu I see.
Ah, this was recently broken with a translation fix, I see. Thanks, I'll get this fixed up.
