Description

I have a Baofeng UV-5R

Backlight, Menu 6 ABR

The handheld allows "OFF" and numbers from 1-10

Chirp's Basic settings, Backlight Timeout allows 0-24

If I enter 11 into Chirp and upload to the Baofeng UV-5R, I see funny flashing characters in Menu 6 ABR. Nothing else appears to be wrong.

If I enter 10 into Chirp's Basic settings, Backlight Timeout and upload to the HT, all is fine again.

Then don't set it to values higher than 10 in your radio. Older UV-5R radios allow the setting to be as high as 24.

Thank you for quick response.

A) Is it possible to identify radio and firmware and therefore offer correct ABR limits ?

Or these radios do not reply with exact unit type and firmware number ?

B) Is it possible to mention some clarification note on the Chirp screen close to Backlight Timer ?

A) Is it possible to identify radio and firmware and therefore offer correct ABR limits ?

No. If they did, CHIRP would be programmed to automatically adjust for it.

Or these radios do not reply with exact unit type and firmware number ?

No. The radio does no expose any information that would be useful for doing this.

B) Is it possible to mention some clarification note on the Chirp screen close to Backlight Timer ?

No.
