Description

Kenwood T270
I programmed this radio with windows xp with the OEM cable and support disc. Its a PIA to dig out my old XP computer to program this radio. Came across a page in chirp that says the TK270 IS supported by chirp. (Listed as TK270*) NOTE 1: Radios marked with an asterisk (*) were supported in the legacy builds of CHIRP, but have not yet been validated in CHIRP-next. See ChirpNextBuild for details. Please open a bug to report whether or not these work for you.

Used Baofeng cable with no communication to radio
Used another Baofeng cable with no communication with radio
Used OEM Kenwood cable supplied with radio with no communication to radio.

All new to this, where should I start ? Is it a cable issue on my end or a chirp next on your end or neither ?

The TK-270 driver is a bit rough, so we might not be able to make much progress remotely. However, you can start with the IssueInstructions you indicated you read. Using the best cable (likely the OEM one), attempt a download and then use Help->Report or update a bug to send a debug log to this issue so I can have a look at how it's failing.

Hello Dan,
I found an old download file of the Legacy edition of Chirp in a hard
drive. I reinstalled that program, used a Baofeng cable and was able
to download from the radio. I programmed a local ham frequency in and
uploaded to the radio. Both upload and download works along with the
ham frequency hitting the repeater. So I guess I am good to go. Thanks
for replying super fast. I was expecting to have to wait a few days
for a response.

The latest legacy version is still available on the download page, FWIW. However, if you could please attach your .img file to this bug I'd appreciate it. I don't even have an image file to test the driver with.

Also, if you're willing to test with the currently-supported version, I'd like to get a debug log at least to see how far it gets. I spent the time between now and my last reply fixing the driver in the blind, so if you can try it to show me a debug log and would be willing to test a module for me, I and other users would sure appreciate it.

Please, if you could, reproduce the failure to connect using the latest version of chirp-next. Once you have, go to Help->Report or update a bug and send an update to this bug. That will send me a debug log so I can see how it fail

I have about 15mins then I got to bed down for the night for work
tomorrow. I'll hang out here till 9pm est to see if you need anything
else. Ill check back again tomorrow to see if you need anything and we
can go from there

Thanks, that failed for the reason I thought. Please try the attached module using these instructions when you get a chance: LoadingTestModules

Also the version of chirp-next you're using is super (super) old, which means you'll need to download and install the latest before you can do this. When you do, please load the module as above, try downloading from the radio again and use the Help->Report or update a bug tool to upload a debug log. Your version is too old to have this tool, but when you upgrade, please use the tool because it provides me more information.

Downloaded the latest Chirp 10/25/2024. Clicked help, LOAD MODULE FROM
ISSUE, TYPED 11644 AND GOT ERROR.

What is the tk270.py file for ? Tried to enter that but wouldn't
accept

Yep, that's what you should do, but without a debug log I can't tell what the error is. The tk270.py is the module it's trying to load, you shouldn't do anything with it specifically, it's just here for chirp to find.

ok, I tried the Kenwood cable with chirp next with the same error. I
updated to the latest legacy download and it still works for this
radio. See jpg to verify it's the latest. What would you or do you
need from me for it to work on chirp next ?

Bob, I need you to install the latest chirp-next and use Help->Load module from issue to load the module that I've attached here into your CHIRP, then try downloading from the radio. I think you tried this once already and got some error about loading it, but as I mentioned, without seeing the debug log associated with that problem I can't tell you what is going wrong.

I know this is complicated, but perhaps the best thing would be to wait for someone else to come along that is a bit more familiar with this debugging in order to give it a try.

Something on your system is blocking CHIRP from talking to the website:

OSError: Could not find a suitable TLS CA certificate bundle, invalid path: C:\Program Files\Total Defense\Internet Security Suite\Anti-Phishing

If you recognize something called "total defense" that's probably it, although that error message looks like it's something you used to have and is now gone? Not sure, but either way it's preventing chirp from loading the module.
