Description

Some months ago, I downloaded and saved the memory from a previous Yaesu VX-8

Now contained in a file which CHIRP has no problem opening - data all looks correct - roughly 300 channels

However, I am now having problems uploading to my new VX-8

System is a new MacBook Pro running 10.9.3 with CHIRP 0.4.0 - GTK 2.24.10 - PyGTK 2.22.0 - Python 2.7.2

Kawamall FTDI USB cable - which appears to be fine (downloading works and Monitor sees the driver)

When trying to upload, get this message from CHIRP:

Failed to communicate with the radio: Radio did not ack block 1

The radio shows -ERROR- after having correctly been in the -WAIT- state

Apple USB Config:

USB-Serial Controller:

Product ID: 0x2303
Vendor ID: 0x067b (Prolific Technology, Inc.)
Version: 3.00
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.
Location ID: 0x14200000 / 22
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 100

In Monitor:

ls /dev/cu* returns -

/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port /dev/cu.PL2303-00002014
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem

kextstat returns -

153 0 0xffffff7f82342000 0x8000 0x8000 com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver (2.2.18) <130 34 5 4 3 1>

Hello Michael
my suspect is that the two radio can have different configurations (eg one have been mars modded) so the new VX8 sees the image you are trying to upload have wrong "bits" and refuse it.
To be sure chirp can communicate with the new one please try downloading a fresh image from it and then upload it back.

Thank you Marco - the radio is new, but has had the out-of-band resistor removed. The previous radio (from which the desired upload comes) was similarly modified.

I seem to be able to download from the new (blank) radio, but get an error message at the very end of cloning - "An error has occurred Failed to communicate with the radio: received incomplete image from radio" - and there is no resulting file showing on the screen (ie nothing downloaded).

When I then try to upload, I get the same message I detailed above...

I am a long-time ham (1956) and a computer systems engineer - but this one has me stumped - I have tried every combination of configurations I can think of.

BTW - the seeming download only works if I tell CHIRP to begin the download and THEN put the radio in the clone transmit mode.

Thanks again

Hi Michael
just to be sure: the "clone receiving" end have to be put in RX before the other end start sending data.
This mean you have to press "OK" on the instruction window of chirp before starting clone on the radio when you "download from radio" and you instead have to put radio in "RX" before to press "OK" on instructions when "uploading to radio".

As a rule of thumb if download from radio does not work uploading to radio will also fail. ;)

Please open a terminal, set environment variable CHIRP_DEBUG with
export CHIRP_DEBUG=1
and start chirp from same terminal, try downloading from radio, collect debug log and send it here.

Tnx for collaboration

I can confirm that VX-8 img files are NOT compatible if the resistor is removed.
