Are you sure this isn't just another one of many "UV5R variants?":http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Baofeng_UV5R_Variants There are currently something like 39 models listed that use the UV-5R selection for support.

Jim,
I tried it in the latest version of Chirp, and I got the message "Radio did not respond."
I selected the UV5R and tried it with both COM ports, 1 and 9.
I also tried the other supported Baofeng models and got various error messages.
If this thing is a clone of one of the supported radios, I haven't found it.
The factory programming software for this radio is the same as for the UV66,
and I did get that software working with the UV-TEN4. The UV66 is not supported in Chirp.

The error you describe suggests a problem with the cable.
