Description

I'd like to ask for support for a new radio the Wouxun KG-818. This is likely a model that will not appear in the USA as it is designed for low band PMR (mostly now redundant) but includes 70MHz which is the UK 4m band and becoming increasingly popular across Europe (and slowly the rest of the world).

I have successfully connected and read from my 818 using either the 816 / UV6 mode however it is not possible to amend or save alterations due to validation for the relevant bands.

I'd be happy to help but as a non-programmer I guess my contribution would be limted to maybe editing a text or xml file but if I can help I will. I'm currenty using the latest daily build of CHIRP.

Am I correct in understanding you can download and view memories from this radio with Chirp? Can you save a .img and post it here?

Sorry for the delay, been having an argument with an unwilling PC. . . Thank you for taking the time to review this transceiver.

I've tweaked the frequency validation to allow entry of frequencies between 66-88 MHz, and there are no longer any errors reported. This is an interesting test but not a long term solution. We may be able to read the frequency range from the radio and detect model that way.

Tomorrow's daily build will allow you to use the KG-816 driver with your KG-818 without frequency validation errors. Let us know if you see any other inconsistencies--I wasn't able to spot any differences between the 816 and 818, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

Many thanks for this - it works flawlessly and permits entering memory channels across the full operating range of the transceiver. This adjustment makes Chirp usable for PMR users in addition to amateurs. The upload and download works fine. The second settings page has no effect on the 818 (I've tried).
